PENDLE Council provides good value for money according to a leading independent watchdog.

Appointed by the Audit Commission, Grant Thornton (UK) LLP assessed the council.

In particular, the assessment looked at how well the council manages its finances and whether it provides value for money for residents.

The Annual Audit Letter covers the period from April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2013.

Dean Langton, head of central and regeneration services, said: “The Annual Audit Letter is an impartial and objective report on how we’re performing and conducting our business.”

Coun Linda Crossley, who oversees the council’s finances, said: “We take pride in running an efficient organisation.

“We’re always striving to improve the quality of our services while making sure we drive our costs down.

“We want to be as efficient and cost-effective as possible, particularly in this financial climate.”
