ALMOST 100 potholes in Darwen have been reported to the council after a campaign was launched by the town’s MP.

Jake Berry launched his ‘Pothole Patrol’ in August, giving residents a website on which to report problem roads.

A list of reported potholes is then submitted to Blackburn with Darwen Council to get repaired.

Mr Berry said since its launch, 96 potholes had been reported by more than 400 people.

He said: “I’ve been overwhelmed by the number of people getting in touch about this problem – around 100 potholes have now been reported in Darwen and North Turton.

“A number of reported problems, including in Olive Lane, Carus Avenue and Johnson New Road, have now been or are scheduled to be fixed.

“However I am aware that there are quite a few that the council haven’t got round to looking at yet and I’m still waiting for a formal response from the council.

“Please continue to let me know of any particularly bad areas and I will do my best to make sure that they are repaired as soon as possible.”

Responding to suggestions he was taking credit for the work of Blackburn with Darwen Council, Mr Berry said: “Some people seem to be a bit upset about ‘who claims credit’ for fixing potholes, but to be honest I don’t think most Darreners care who repairs their potholes or takes credit for doing so, they just want them fixed.

“This campaign has given Darreners a quick and easy way to report the most problematic potholes in a matter of seconds.”
