A COUNCIL has gained European recognition for its efforts in promoting sustainable travel.
Representatives from Quest, a European Commission-funded project to promote sustainable travel, has presented the Blackburn with Darwen Council with a certificate.
The borough is one of only 46 towns and cities across Europe to have participated in the QUEST project.
The award recognises the work done in the area to promote smarter travel and the successful development of a sustainable transport action plan.
Quest aims to contribute to decreasing energy consumption in urban transport and encourage green investments.
The borough’s action plan is to be adopted and delivered through the Council’s CONNECT project, which aims to reduce single-occupancy car journeys by educating people about greener and more cost-effective modes of travel.
Coun Maureen Bateson, executive member for regeneration, said: “It is great to see our efforts have been recognised and it reaffirms that we are on the right tracks in pursuing a greener transport system for our borough.”
