A FASHION night aimed to encourage young people to be more aware of sexual health.

Celebrate Safe took place on Thursday at Blackburn Library and featured young people from a variety of groups across the borough.

They designed T-shirts and outfits on the theme of staying sexually safe over the festive period.

Groups took part in a fashion show and also provided music and dance entertainment.

Bill Lovat, assistant director of Children's Services for Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council and chairman of the borough's multi-agency Young People's Sexual Health Board, said: "We've been delighted by the enthusiastic response from young people across all communities in the borough.

"We had a great fun night of fashion, dance and music, but with a serious message - be safe, use a condom."

Part of a drive by the borough's Young People's Sexual Health Board to help young people have a great party season, the fashion show and entertainment, hosted by Brook in Blackburn, was devised by young people themselves.

The event aimed to promote messages on how young people can enjoy themselves over the festive period without compromising their health or personal safety.

The event was supported by Blackburn with Darwen Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, Drug and Alcohol Team and the b-sure Chlamydia Screening Programme.
