ROSSENDALE and Darwen MP Jake Berry has received a written answer from the Secretary of State for Communuities and Local Government after asking him to clarify payment of council tax by direct debit.
Mr Berry had asked: “For how many local authorities in England is it a default position to collect council tax payments via direct debit over 12 months rather than 10?”
Brandon Lewis, MP for Great Yarmouth, replied: “Since April 2013, taxpayers have been able to request to pay council tax bills over 12 payments rather than 10, if they wish. “We have not asked councils to change the default position. I am open to representations on how to promote this right.”
