AN East Lancashire headteacher has spoken out in favour of exam reforms.
Changes to GCSEs, set to come in throughout 2015 and 2016, will see a 1-9 number grading system.
Exams regulator Ofqual has also put an end to coursework marks, and module assessment.
Andrew Johnson, headteacher at Stonyhurst College, said he welcomed the changes.
He said: “In principle, I welcome the news I have heard about these changes.
“It’s a good idea to bring the changes in in stages. “I also welcome the new grading system because it gives more room to achieve higher grades. It is also very different and will prevent unhelpful comparisons with the old system.
“I find the decision to do away with modules and coursework to be a good one. “It leaves more time, and space, to teach, instead of the constant interruption of assessment and resits.
“I am yet to see the fine detail of the curriculum.”
