A FAMILY had to be rescued from the top of a hill in Haslingden when they became lost and disoriented in the dark.

Rossendale and Pennine Mountain Rescue Team were called by two police officers who were waiting with a mother, her six-year-old son and three-year-old daughter and an adult friend walking in Musbury Heights off Grane Road.

Mark Wakeman, a team member, said: “Two team members went directly up the hill while a party of five went around the Rossendale Way and up to the chimney in order to lead the group off the safest way. I carried the three-year-old down.

“I’m not sure how they came to be lost but the important thing was to get everyone safely off the hill.

“A kind couple in their 30s who live in a house below Calf Hey Reservoir gave us tea and biscuits. We were all very grateful.”

The team were called out on Monday just before 7pm, and finished the mission at around 10pm.
