A FORMER apprentice is to take a leading role at a training group.

Steve Whitehead, from Burnley, joins Blackburn based Training 2000 after spending the past seven years as CEO of Alliance Learning, based in Horwich. Prior to that, he spent almost 15 years with Accrington-based North Lancs Training Group.

Steve, who is a former apprentice, is the group’s new head of education and skills. He will have responsibility for managing the training provider’s staff and learners to increase training opportunities and continually improve the provision offered.

He said: “In my new role, I am looking to develop the existing good practice offered and ensure that we meet employer needs and keep our outstanding Ofsted grades.

“I am also hoping to increase awareness of apprenticeships in both schools and at career events to enhance the quality of our training provision.”

Steve Gray, chief executive officer at Training 2000, said: “As an ex-apprentice, Steve will be a great ambassador for young people and will play a key role in promoting the value of apprenticeships to employers.”
