A CONSUMER chief has welcomed a 26-month jail sentence handed out to a Padiham rogue builder who deliberately targeted elderly people across East Lancashire.

Christopher McKillop, 33, of Russell Terrace, conned £900 from a woman and hundreds of pounds from a man, both in Waterfoot, and tried to persuade a 90-year-old Samlesbury man about rewiring work.

He was branded ‘vile’ by sentencing judge Anthony Russell QC, following a Lancashire trading standards probe.

County councillor Janice Hanson, public protection cabinet member, said: “We are satisfied with this result.

“McKillop targeted elderly victims and went back repeatedly demanding money for work that was unnecessary and was sometimes not carried out at all.

“The impact on the victims was considerable and we do not believe he worked alone in carrying out these offences.

“We hope this sentence sends a message that we will not tolerate rogue traders targeting vulnerable Lancashire residents.”
