THE honorary title of alderman has been awarded to two former Hyndburn councillors in recognition of their service and dedication to the community.

At a special presentation Ian Ormerod and Dave Parkins were praised as "wonderful ambassadors" for the area.

The two men, both former Hyndburn mayors, were installed as aldermen at a meeting last week.

Mr Ormerod said that he had some very fond memories of his time on the council.

But he said: "There were those tedious, boring meetings that you have to sit through which I think is what I remember the most. I don't miss it in the slightest."

The title of alderman is next in status to the mayor.

Former Huncoat councillor Dave Parkins, who left the council in May, was nominated for the role of alderman by his colleague Coun Brendan Shiel.

Mr Parkins said: "I do miss the council and I would like to thank everyone who supported me, especially my wife.

"This honour is for the people of Huncoat as well."

Coun Brendan Shiel said: "Dave was proud to represent the people who elected him into office.

"The effort he put in was way above what was required - he always went that extra mile."
