HUNCOAT weather expert Roy Chetham said October was the dullest he had recorded in more than four decades.

There was 161.5mm of rain in a month that saw just two dry days, but temperatures were milder than last year, with the highest recorded at 17.9C. Mr Chetham said: “Sunshine of only 32 hours estimated from cloud cover made it the dullest October in my records of 42 years.

“There were seven sunless days.

“It was the wettest October since 2008, with only two dry days. The mean temperature was 1.7 celsius above average and much milder than last year.”

Mr Chetham said he predicted a relatively mild and frost-free November.

He said: “The North Atlantic Jet Stream remains centred over Britain so November is likely to stay largely unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain, locally heavy, particularly in the north West, where it will also be windy at times.

“As such, rainfall amounts here are likely to be above average.
