HGVs carried huge sections of a new wind turbine through Rossendale on their way to Todmorden yesterday.

The blades of one turbine were collected from Hull docks at 9am, and transported along the M66 , to the A56, A681, and into Todmorden, arriving between noon and 1pm.

The tower sections were taken down the M62, and through Rochdale and Whitworth.

A spokesman for Collett Group, the haulage company moving the turbines, said: “Everything has gone without a hitch. There were no hold-ups.”

A rolling road closure has been put in place in the towns by Lancashire County Council, from Monday to Saturday, between 11am and 3pm, until the work is completed, or on Tuesday, December 31.

It means police can close the roads, residents could be stopped from parking, and businesses prevented from loading, if necessary.
