A PENSIONER has blasted the flytippers who blocked in his car by dumping a ‘staggering’ amount of rubbish at the end of his driveway.

Arthur Haymes, 66, suffers from arthritis and was unable to get his car out over the weekend, after the rubble and waste was tipped in the alley behind his home in Blackburn Road, West End, Oswaldtwistle.

He believes the rubbish was dumped between about 5pm and 6pm on Friday, while he was walking his dog.

The retired quality manager said: “I don’t suppose these people have any morals whatsoever and won’t have considered the problems they have caused me and my neighbours.

“It looks like someone’s come up the back with a tipper. It just looks like general builders’ rubbish. There are doors, windows, piles of bricks and other rubble.

“It’s a staggering amount and it’s made a real mess. I’ve got arthritis so I’m not sure I can shift it even if I had somewhere to shift it to.

“I’ve spoken to the neighbours and no-one seems to have seen or heard anything which is remarkable, because it must have made quite a noise.

“I’m not holding out much hope of anything happening before this week, so I won’t be able to get the car out at all.”

Not knowing where to turn, Mr Haymes contacted the police, who said the matter would be referred to the council.

Clare Pritchard, deputy leader and housing boss at Hyndburn Council, visited Mr Haymes on Saturday after hearing about the incident.

She said the rubbish was on an ‘unadopted’ or private road, so the council could not act immediately.

But she added: “We’ll get someone to come up today to look for evidence and to look to get it removed.

“If we find anything in there it will cost whoever’s done this a lot of money because we will prosecute.

“This happens too often in the borough but we do take a strong line against it.”
