A COUNCILLOR is campaigning to lower the speed limit at an accident ‘blackspot’ after a serious crash on Monday.

Whalley councillor Joyce Holgate wants the limit lowered after three people were taken to hospital by air ambulance after a bus and motorhome collided.

Another near fatal accident happened on the same road in August, leaving Hannah Flynn, 20, in a critical condition in hospital.

Her family have been campaigning for changes to the ‘poorly designed’ junction.

On Monday a 75-year-old woman along with a 46-year-old camper van driver and a passenger suffered broken legs and were airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital.

The mobile home hit a coach as it turned left on to Accrington Road, heading out of Whalley.

Coun Holgate said: “It was an accident waiting to happen. The speed limit is too high.

“I hope Lancashire County Council look at this area closely and consider lowering the speed limit.

“I’m considering putting a motion to full council to see what we can do to improve the safety of the road.”

Police Sergeant Gareth Hill said: “I appeal to anybody who saw the crash to contact police.

“I am also keen to speak with anybody who may have witnessed either vehicle being driven immediately prior to collision”
