Head teacher Margaret Crompton reflects on the successful opening of the first foundation unit in Blackburn with Darwen at St Anthony's RC Primary School, Shadsworth Road, Blackburn.
The unit places nursery and reception classes in one building after the former reception building was demolished.
Most of the funding was received from the diocese and the unit teaches children aged three to five.
The head said: "This is a new and exciting venture for us.
"The foundation unit is going from strength to strength.
"We are the first foundation unit in the borough, and this has been very well received by everyone."
