A PIONEERING community growing group has been officially launched in Darwen.

Several people met this week at the first Incredible Edible Darwen meeting to discuss how to push ahead with the project.

As reported last week, the group wants to turn unused spaces in public areas into vegetable patches for the benefit of local people.

Enthusiastic residents of all ages attended the event where plans for initial sites and ideas for fundraising were discussed.

They agreed to meet with more organisations who have already expressed an interest in becoming involved and to visit existing Incredible Edible towns in the coming weeks.

The group now wants more local businesses, organisations and individuals interested in getting involved in the project, or those who have spare tools, compost or seeds to get in touch to help it grow further.

Anyone interested should email: incredible.edibledarwen@gmail.com or visit www.facebook.com/ incredibledarwen.

The group’s next public meeting is at the Craven Heifer Inn in Pole Lane on November 11 at 7.30pm.
