A RAID on a specialist rally car firm netted thieves a £28,000 haul in parts and tools, prompting police to issue a warning to neighbouring businesses to be on their guard against burglars.

The intruders rammed a gate, removed security fencing, smashed a window and cut through several locks to break into the Auto Tech premises on the Crow Nest industrial estate, Barnoldswick.

The break-in at the company, which prepares rally vehicles, is thought to have taken place between 1.30am and 7.30am on Sunday.

Now police are urging other business owners in the area to be on their guard.

Sergeant Andy Cartwright of Barnoldswick police said: "They made a large methodical search and removed £28,000 worth of property, including car parts, snap-on tools and a powerwasher.

"Obviously there were vehicles involved and it's taken a while to do but we don't believe there to be any witnesses.

"This is a serious theft, though, and we are investigating thoroughly.

"We urge anyone who knows anything about it to get in touch."

Sgt Cartwright added that business owners on the Crow Nest estate, which is now part of the Businesswatch, should be vigilant and contact the police straight away if they see anything suspicious anywhere on the industrial estate.

Anyone with any information about the burglary is asked to contact local police on 0845 1253545 or alternatively, ring Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555111.
