LEAMINGTON Road scouts are ending Blackburn Scout District centenary year in style.

Six scouts from the club were presented with the highest award a scout can achieve in front of their proud families.

The youngsters completed challenges designed to broaden and improve life skills in nine different areas to attain the Gold Chief Scout award, an honour only a select few reach.

The award winners took part in a two-day overnight hike around Pendle Hill, ignoring the tales of ghosts and witches which surround the area.

Each of the gold winners led a patrol group, they also welcomed new members and prepared and led an activity or fitness challenge.

East Lancashire scout county commissioner representative, Fil Ruddock, handed the boys the award at Leamington road Baptist Church on Sunday, October 13.

The club welcomes any young person between 10– 14 years of age, both boys and girls from any ethnic or religious background. One of their most recent achievements was raising £500 for Nightsafe, a charity supporting young homeless people in Blackburn.
