A BLACKBURN man has been fined after he allowed people to take his scrap metal away from his business premises and dump it illegally.

Zubair Desai, of Queen’s Road, was ordered to pay a total of £1,590.65 for failing to get rid of his metal waste properly. Mr Desai allowed the waste to be taken away by ‘unlicensed individuals’ and failed to check their details.

Those individuals then went on to dump the waste illegally.

Councillor Jim Smith, executive member for environment at Blackburn with Darwen Council said: “As a council, it is crucial that we prosecute those who do not dispose of their waste in a proper manner to provide a strong deterrent to anyone who may be thinking about breaking the law.

“It is important to use licensed providers to remove your waste, as otherwise you could still be prosecuted if it is dumped illegally.”
