A 93-YEAR-OLD man had his home raided in the early hours as he slept.
The victim, who lives in Barnwood Road, Earby, was targeted by a burglar who threw a large stone through his lounge window.
Once inside, the offender stole several hundreds pounds from a glass jar, a leather wallet and a bottle of whisky before driving off in a silver car, possibly a Ford Escort.
Neighbour Tom Forster, 54, heard the glass being smashed and called police.
“I was in bed and heard a window smash,” he said. “I looked out because I thought it was my car being done at first but then I saw them speed off in a car.
“It’s disgusting that people could do this. We think he has been deliberately targeted because he is elderly, it’s shocking.
“There are people on the street who keep an eye out for Bob, people know him. I woke up two ladies who look after him and have a key and we went into the house and he had slept through it all.”
The burglary took place at around 2am on Saturday, September 19. Police have only just released details.
Mr Forster, who has lived in Barnwood Road for nearly three years, said: “Bob’s quite a resilient chap. He was still driving last year, so I think he is okay and people do look out for him.
“There are a lot of elderly people who live in this area though and it has made people wary.”
PC Nicola Breckell said: “This is an appalling incident in which a vulnerable old man has been targeted.
“I would appeal to anybody that has any information about this burglary that could assist police with our investigation to contact us on 101.”
