A FAMILY from Burnley is still facing an anxious wait after a burglar was arrested in connection with a raid in which a 91-year-old’s ashes were stolen.
Police arrested James Greenwood, 42, in relation to a break-in at the home of Claire Wynn in Brownhill Avenue which happened earlier this month.
The raid saw a mahogany casket, containing the remains of her grandfather John Clarkson, taken while the family was away on holiday.
Greenwood, of Deerstone Avenue, Burnley, has appeared before Pennine magistrates and admitted a burglary charge.
He has since been committed for sentence to Burnley Crown Court on November 11, police have confirmed.
But Lancashire Police have confirmed that the casket, which was taken along with an iPhone4, X-Box, stereo and DVD player, has not yet been recovered for the family.
Mrs Wynn has previously spoken of her family’s ‘heartbreak and upset’ over the ‘soul-destroying’ loss of the ashes. Mr Clarkson died just over eight months ago.
Police are also on the lookout for the missing casket.
And they are are urging anyone with information about the casket to call the force on the non-emergency number 101.
