A MASTER butcher is inviting people to submit their recipes to his competition to find The Quintessential British Sausage.
Kevin Berkins, the owner of The Fence Gate at Fence, near Burnley and The Eagle at Barrow, near Clitheroe, is offering the winner a meal for four, where they can sample their creation at either of his eateries.
Mr Berkins, who has been a BPEX National Sausage Champion twice, will make up the sausage and sell it at Berkins Deli.
He said: “Our eateries are known for being the homes of award-winning sausages second to none.
“But we wanted to showcase not just the excellent sausages that we devise, but one that is created by a member of the public.
“Our competition will reward the sausage that jumps out at us as having a great potential taste and texture, based upon the suggested ingredients, which should all be very British in their nature.
“We are seeking the quintessential British sausage and we are confident that Lancashire folk can come up with something spectacular.”
To submit an entry for the Quintessential British Sausage, email it to sales@fencegate.co.uk. The closing date for the competition is Friday, November 1 and the winner will be announced on the eateries’ Facebook and Twitter pages on November 4.
