A PIECE of public art was unveiled today with civic leaders predicting it will become a distinctive landmark for years to come.
The Singing, Ringing Tree panopticon at Crown Point is made from tubes of metal which emit a low sound with the window blows through them.
It is part of the £1million panopticon project, which was originally intended to see six pieces of public art installed in each of East Lancashire's six boroughs.
Sculpture proposals in Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley have proved controversial and failed to materialise.
Burnley's panopticon also initially proved contentious and its design was amended following fears the noise it produces would scare animals.
But civic leaders gave the sculpture the thumbs up after a ceremony to official launch it.
