RESTRICTIONS have been put in place for revellers at a Hallowe’en hotspot.

Several measures will be used around the Nick o’ Pendle and Sabden out of concerns over public safety.

Ribble Valley Borough Council, Lancashire County Council and Lancashire Constabulary decided to bring the controls which includes a one-way system and parking bans to reduce alcohol-related disorder, heavy traffic and unauthorised use of fireworks.

The popular location has suffered problems since 2008 when it started to become more commercialised, but the one-way system has worked well in previous years. Visitors travelling by car to Pendle Hill will be unable to stop until they get to Sabden as part of a one way system running from the A59.

There they will be able to park and walk up the hill.

But there will be no access to the hill for those travelling in the opposite direction.

Meanwhile residents have been advised not to head to the Nick o’ Pendle north of the village, which will be closed to fairground rides, mobile catering units and parked cars from 6pm until 3am. The entrance to the Wellsprings Inn will only be from the A59.

Anyone travelling from Padiham, Burnley, the M65 or M66 via Black or White Hill will also only be able to exit the village via Whalley Road. Chairman of Ribble Valley 's community services committee Robert Thompson, said: “These commonsense measures will ensure that those who visit the Nick o' Pendle on Hallowe'en night do so in safety.”
