A MAN who has made his neighbours’ lives a misery for years has been given a second anti-social behaviour order.

David Newton, 44, has been warned to follow the strict ASBO conditions for five years or face more time in jail.

He has been ordered not to play music, drink alcohol in public, go into any Ramsbottom pub or buy alcohol from Ramsbottom shops.

Newton was given his first ASBO in 2011 after a court heard that, for the previous two years, he had caused trouble in town centre pubs, trashed banks and building societies and made nuisance 999 calls. He also threatened his neighbours, trashed his own house and randomly assaulted people.

Newton also drunkenly tormented his neighbours by screaming and shouting, throwing furniture out of his window and playing loud dance music. He has been to prison for an unprovoked attack on an elderly man in the town.

Newton, of Victoria Street, Ramsbottom, also burst his water pipe and flooded his neighbour’s homes and he did not replace his windows for seven months after smashing them.

The ASBO expired in June and neighbours have since complained of a catalogue of similar drunken behaviour.

Newton began playing loud music in the middle of the night and harassing his parents.

He has also caused trouble at several Ramsbottom pubs, including the Rose and Crown, the Grant Arms and the Grey Mare. Things came to a head on September 21, when he harassed a woman, despite being banned from contacting her.

Two days later, Bury magistrates jailed Newton for 16 weeks after he admitted the charge. They imposed a five-year ASBO at a hearing last week. Newton is banned from using foul language and approaching eight named people, including his parents.
