HIGH-tech software firm K3 Business Technology Group plc, which has offices in Nelson and Colne, could be set to buy a rival company.

The firm, which employs 60 in its East Lancashire offices, has approached Derbyshire-based SiRViS IT plc, which offers computer support services, about a takeover.

A statement said: "SiRViS IT plc announced earlier today that it is in receipt of an approach from K3 Business Technology Group PLC to acquire the Company at an indicative cash price of 4p per share, subject to a variety of pre-conditions and assumptions."

K3 has confirmed the approach, but has said it "does not amount to a firm intention to make an offer."

Recently K3, which supplies and offers support in the retail, distribution and manufacturing sectors, announced it had landed a series of new contracts worth more than £4million, including a deal with one of the world's largest video game retailers.
