A 24-year-old man who stole from cars to fund his amphetamine habit has been jailed for nine months.
Blackburn magistrates heard that Michael Anthony Jackson stole laptop computers and other equipment worth over £5,000 from one car. Jackson, 24, of Worcester Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to four charges of theft, all committed on November 18, driving while disqualified and without insurance and obstructing police.
The court heard the four cars were all parked in the Edgworth area and some of the property stolen was found in a car Jackson was driving. Andrew Church-Taylor, defending, said Jackson had an amphetamine habit which had "re-developed". "He had a need for funds so he could feed that habit," he said.
District judge Peter Ward said: "People ought to be able to leave their vehicles without the risk of people like you coming along and breaking into them."
