CHRISTMAS trees will be collected by Burnley Council this year to be recycled for compost.
Real trees can be collected from January 15 to 19, but bookings for the service must be made as soon as possible, and before January 10.
The council has temporarily suspended its brown-bin green waste collection, which will resume on January 22.
Councillor Charles Bullas, the council's executive member for the environment, said: "I know it seems strange to be thinking about how you're going to get rid of your real Christmas trees before many people will have even bought one.
"However getting rid of the tree once the festivities are over is a task many people face and the council is making it easier.
"By offering to take away their tree for free, and put it to good use by recycling it."
