THE sun may have set on one empire but as far as takeaways are concerned, this one's still going strong.
The Empire is both a traditional chippy, and was doing a roaring trade on Wednesday night, as well as a Chinese.
There were well over 100 different selections to made made from the Chinese menu and I went for two chef's specials - the deep fried beef in spicy sauce and the beef with black pepper sayce.
Both dishes came with boiled rice and the bill was £9.70.
Crispy beef is one of my favourites but sometimes it can be overcooked and so brittle it threatens to break your teeth.
Not so here, as it was just the right texture and the tangy sauce the perfect complement.
The better half was equally impressed with the black bean sauce and we polished off both dishes with gusto.
