SANTA is replacing his reindeer with a locomotive for four festive train journeys through East Lancashire.

The Santa Services' will run along the Ribble Valley line, thanks to rail users group Ribble Valley Rail.

Santa will join the special service at Blackburn on Clitheroe-bound trains at 11.48am and 2.48pm tomorrow, and the following Saturday.

The trains will stop at Ramsgreave and Wilpshire, Langho, and Whalley, to pick up passengers who want to give Santa their Christmas wish list.

Ted Buckley, Santa Services joint co-ordinator, said: "The services, as in previous years, are likely to be very popular.

"Ribble Valley Rail has this year agreed with Northern Rail to add an extra carriage on the train. During the journey Santa will visit all children on the train, presenting them with a small goody bag' and, obviously, gathering information about what they wish him to bring them on Christmas morning."

The train will be decked out with festive decorations, including streamers and balloons, and there will be mince pies and sherry for adults.

The service has become a popular annual event over the years.

Normal ticket fares apply, and no advance booking is required.

There will also be a Mince Pie Special', running from Manchester Victoria to Clitheroe this Sunday, leaving Manchester at 11am and 2pm.
