THE family of a Darwen teenage cancer sufferer are continuing their appeal for items to be used in a charity auction.

Youth MP for Blackburn with Darwen Matt Worden, 15, and his dad, David, are raising cash for the Teenage Cancer Trust, which supports teenagers with cancer.

Matt's brother, Christopher, 17, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease in March.

The family, of The Meadows, Darwen, aim to raise £30,000 with a number of events culminating in the big fundraiser in April when David, managing director of RS Plating Ltd, Burnley, and friend Malcolm Brown, of Bolton-by-Bowland, will cycle from the Eiffel Tower to Barcelona.

Christopher is now due to undergo radiotherapy. His family are hoping he will then go into remission.

Hodgkin's disease starts in lymphatic tissue.

The auctions will be held in conjunction with charity golf days being organised for next year.

Any goods donated that are not suitable for the auctions will be used in raffles currently being organised in pubs across Darwen.

David, 43 said he was hopeful that by raising money the charity could establish cancer treatment centres nearer East Lancashire. The closest is Manchester.

David, who cycled to Paris from Darwen Tower in 2003, said: "The auctions are hoped to be a big fundraiser for us. We will hold them as soon as the weather is up to it.
