LIFE-SAVING hospital staff from Burnley were honoured at a national awards ceremony.
The critical care unit staff at Burnley General Hospital were invited to the Hospital Doctor Awards in London.
They finished runner up in the Critical Care in Anaesthesia category at the ceremony, hosted by television presenter Eamon Holmes.
Dr James Watts, the unit's lead clinician, said: "It is disappointing that we did not win, but it was a great honour for us to be nominated, and to be one of the final three critical care units was just fantastic.
"All the nurses and doctors at Burnley critical care have worked tirelessly over the past years to produce an intensive care service that truly places the patient at the centre of care, and is flexible enough to meet the demands of 21st century medicine.
"The fact that we were shortlisted with two large teaching hospitals confirms the dedication of our staff and the standard of care they deliver."
