A DRINK driver spotted for his "erratic" manoeuvres behind the wheel tried to avoid arrest by going into a house, a court was told.

Burnley magistrates heard how Peter Anthony Rayson, 46, had a stand-off with police after he stopped outside the house at about 10.30pm.

Rayson, of Albert Road, Colne, admitted driving with excess alcohol, on June 4.

He was banned for 12 months and fined £100, with £60 costs.

The bench offered him the chance to go on the drink drivers' rehabilitation course.

The court was told Rayson gave a test which showed 50 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35.

A blood test revealed 88 microgrammes of drink in 100 millilitres of blood - the legal limit is 80.

Rayson had a similar conviction from 1993.

John Rusius, defending, said Rayson had parked up at his ex-partner's house and went round the back to get his licence.

When an officer drew his baton, he went into the property, panicked, and wouldn't come out.

The solicitor added that Rayson had had a drink, but thought he would be under the limit.
