PENDLE Council has won national recognition for its £100million partnership with private company Liberata.

The authority has collected a prize as finalists in the district council category of the Society of Purchasing Officers' (SOPO) Building a Brighter Future awards.

Pendle was recognised for the 15-year contract it signed with Liberata for the firm to deliver some of its services which the council say will save it £6.7million.

Council leader Councillor Alan Davies said: "As a district council with big ideas and small budgets, we have to be creative and remove any barriers to fulfil our ambitions."

As part of the contract Liberata will be responsible for human resources, IT, and help in the running of Nelson's new £5million office and leisure complex currently being built.

Pendle Council's chief executive Stephen Barnes added: "I am thrilled."
