A TINY kitten’s miaows saved its life after it fell into a hole at its home.

The three-day-old animal almost lost all its nine lives when owner Hassan Khalid couldn’t free it from under the floorboards after two hours.

But a team of firemen came to the rescue and retrieved the youngster after a tense 15 minutes of searching.

They found the pet, which is so young its eyes have yet to open, after pulling up floorboards in the hall of the terraced house in Blackburn.

The kitten’s mother had accidentally dropped him into a gap in the cellar wall as she had been attempting to move her litter of six kittens from the ground floor.

Hassan, 21, who lives in Bowland Road, rang the fire service after trying to get it out himself. He said: “We didn’t notice what had happened for about half an hour and then I heard it miaowing down the hole. “My mum was really worried but thankfully the firemen did a great job and we’re really thankful to them.

“We’re planning to keep him and his siblings now so hope he has more luck in the future.”

Dave Hilliard, the on-duty crew manager, said: “ Had it been left much longer it would probably not have survived without its mother.”
