A YOB behind bars for repeatedly stamping on an unconscious man's head in a street fracas has got another jail term for a Colne cash machine mugging.

Jed Kemp, 22, was one of a gang who targeted Shaun Tong at night.

The victim was surrounded and was hit in the back by someone, trying to knock him off balance, when he got his money. Kemp had tried to distract him and Mr Tong put up a struggle as his money was grabbed.

The victim had £30 taken off him, but his attackers tried to take more, Burnley Crown Court was told. Kemp admitted robbery. He is currently serving 25 months, imposed in May, after he admitted affray and inflicting grievous bodily harm.

The defendant, of Casserley Road, Colne, was given an extra six months.

Judge Andrew Woolman told the defendant, who had written him a letter saying jail had taught him a lesson, that had he been sentencing him for the robbery alone, he would probably have given him 18 months. The sentence would not reflect the facts.

Mark Stuart, for Kemp, said the offence was not pre-planned.

The defendant had been on a night out in Colne with a number of others. It had not been his intention to rob anybody, but unfortunately “high jinks” got the better of him.

Mr Stuart said: “He was part of a group of people who obviously had too much to drink, moving from one pub to another, and they came across the complainant."
