PENDLE Council cannot take action against the owner of a dilapidated Brierfield home – because nobody has complained about it.
The unoccupied terrace home at 11 Oxford Street has its windows and front door boarded up, and a gap between the roof and wall is letting in rain and birds.
The council decided to prepare an abatement order to tackle the building’s appearance, but it can only be served if somebody who has been affected by the problem complains.
The building and the neighbouring properties are unoccupied so there is nobody to complain, a report said. Attempts to contact the owner had been unsuccessful.
The Brierfield and Reedley Committee, which meets tomorrow, will be asked to allow more time for the house’s owner to be notified.
