A FAMILY day out at the seaside ended in violence on the train home.

Blackburn magistrates heard Christian Rivers had taken holiday snaps of his partner and daughter on his mobile phone.

But when his partner looked at the photos she also saw a text message from another woman. During the row that erupted Rivers slapped his partner across the face as she sat next to her four-year-old daughter.

Rivers, 20, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to assaulting KimCurwen.

He was jailed for eight weeks after the magistrates heard he was already serving a prison sentence.

Philippa White, prosecuting, said Miss Curwen was planning a day out in Blackpool with her daughter when Rivers turned up unexpectedly.

“He cajoled her into allowing him to go with them,” said Mrs White. “On the train home she asked to look at the photos of the day and while looking at them found this text message.

“The defendant became agitated when she challenged him and stood over her and slapped her across the face.”

Ian Church-Taylor, defending, said the discovery of the text message caused an argument which spoiled what had been a good day out.

“He accepts he slapped her with the back of his hand,” said Mr Church-Taylor. “This is the first time he has been before the court for domestic violence.”
