TWO teenage girls have given up their time to organise a charity concert in aid of a children’s ward.
Megan Holden, of Earby, and Amelia Bullock, from Barnoldswick, have spent a month organising a charity concert to raise money for the Airedale’s children’s ward.
The event, called Summer Tunes, takes place this evening (Saturday).
The girls, who both attend West Craven High Technology College, decided to raise money for the children’s ward because a member of Megan’s family was cared for there.
Her dad Ian said: “It’s a brilliant ward – we’ve been there quite a few times and the staff are so helpful.
“Considering their age Megan and Amelia have done a good job of organising this – they’ve really thrown themselves into it.”
Megan said: “We went to a charity concert a few weeks ago and enjoyed that, so we thought it would be a good idea to do something for Airedale.
“The organisation has been going well. Everything is sorted now - it’s just about selling the tickets that are left. We’ve been selling them around school and to family and friends.
“I’ve spoken to a woman at the hospital and she said the money we raise might go towards buying new televisions for the ward.”
She added that the concert night would include a raffle, with donated prizes such as chocolates, teddies and body care products.
The concert begins at 6.30pm at the Rolls Royce Social Club, in Barnoldswick.
The occasion will feature acts including individual performers Ashley Sherlock and Andy Darbyshire, along with bands The Eleventh Hour and Flatline Society.
Tickets can be bought, priced £5, on the door.
