A NEW book on legendary Clarets manager and championship winning captain Jimmy Adamson has been officially launched.

Author Dave Thomas is the man behind the biography, called Jimmy Adamson; The Man Who Said ‘No’ To England.

Ashington-born Adamson, who died in November 2011, is one of Turf Moor’s favourite sons, and he racked up over 480 appearances for the club before going on to spend six years in charge of the club.

In all he spent 29 years at Turf Moor from 1947 to 1976 and was one of the stalwarts of the Championship team, forming a formidable partnership with Jimmy McIlroy.

In 1962, when he was coming towards the end of his playing career, he was offered the job of England manager, but turned it down, which is where the title of the book comes from.

Instead he went on to forge his coaching career at Burnley and was renowned as being one of the game’s great tactical thinkers.

Former players including Jimmy Robson, Colin Waldron, Paul Fletcher, Jim Thomson and Ian Brennan were all present for the launch of the book in the club shop on Thursday, as was current Clarets boss Sean Dyche and Adamson’s grandchildren.

Published by Pitch Publishing, Thomas has been planning on writing the book since approaching Adamson in 2005.

Thomas has interviewed many of Adamson’s former players for the book, from Burnley, Sunderland and Leeds United.

Priced at £17.99, Jimmy Adamson; The Man Who Said ‘No’ To England is now available in the club shop, online and from other book shops.
