POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a violent attack in Accrington on Thursday night.

At around 7.50pm a white BMW was forced to stop by a silver Volkswagen Jetta in Ormerod Street.

Four men got out of the Jetta, smashed the windows of the BMW, and attacked the two men inside.

The victims received minor injuries in the attack.

Police arrested four suspects on Thursday night in relation to the incident. They were detained on suspicion of violent disorder and assault, and a fifth man was arrested in relation to the same offences yesterday morning.

The five men aged 25, 22, 31, 29, and 30, were still in custody yesterday evening.

Police believe that people in the area will have seen the incident happen, and have asked for witnesses to come forward with information.

A police spokeswoman said: “A lot of people in the community were out and about at the time of the attack, and we are appealing for people to come forward.

“We will be increasing patrols around the area. Please get in touch to report any suspicious activity.”
