A YOUTH project which helps keep youngsters off the streets in Burnley has been awarded a lottery grant of £200,000.
The ‘Spacebus’ scheme, run by The Participation Works, based in Daneshouse, works with people aged seven to 20.
The funding, awarded by the Big Lottery Fund, will allow the project to continue for the next three years.
The Spacebus is a double decker bus equipped with games consoles, sports equipment, and arts and crafts tools.
It tours deprived areas of Burnley borough including Burnley Wood, Stoneyholme, Rosehill and Padiham on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.
Volunteers advise youngsters on issues such as school, homework, jobs, CVs, alcohol, drugs and sexual health and encourage them to socialise at the bus rather than hang around the streets.
