A 30-YEAR-OLD woman hallucinating after taking a massive dose of diazepam attacked a parked car because she thought her boyfriend was inside.

Blackburn magistrates heard a witness looked out to see Alison McBlain apparently having a conversation with somebody inside the empty car.

Blain was heard to say: “I know you are in there Stewart, I’m going to find something to bash your head in.”

She then ripped a windscreen wiper off the vehicle and used it to scratch the side of the car. McBlain, 29, of Clarence Street, Darwen, pleaded guilty to damaging a MG ZR belonging to Graham Melia.

She was made subject to community supervision for 12 months and ordered to pay £290 compensation.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said the witness was woken at 3am by the sound of McBlain swearing in the street. He looked out and saw her having a conversation with someone called Stewart. When she was interviewed by police McBlain said she had taken about 80 diazepam tablets with the intention of killing herself.

The tablets caused her to hallucinate and she became mad when her boyfriend wouldn’t let her into the car or talk to her.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said at the time of the offence McBlain was experiencing difficulties with drugs to the extent she tried to take her own life.

“She says that on this night she was absolutely convinced her boyfriend was in the vehicle,” said Mr Taylor.

“He clearly wasn’t but in her mind when he didn’t open the door she became more and more irate.”

Mr Taylor said following the incident McBlain realised she needed to get a grip and she was no longer drinking or taking non-prescribed drugs.
