AUTHOR Andy Holgate will visit Blackburn library on Monday, September 2, to tell the story of his transformation from flab to super-fitness.

Can’t Swim, Can’t Ride, Can’t Run follows Andy’s epic journey from being an overweight librarian to an Ironman triathlete.

Mr Holgate will explain how before he could even begin, he first had to buy a second-hand bike and take swimming lessons.

Along the way, he ended up in hospital, dealt with family crises, encountered crocodiles and deadly amoebas.

He even persuaded his friends that doing an Ironman event was what normal people did on their stag weekend.

He has written a follow-up book, Can’t Sleep, Can’t Train, Can’t Stop, which tells how he went on to compete in an Ironman competition involving a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run on the unforgiving rocks of Lanzarote, all within 24 hours.

Mr Holgate was nominated for the Sports Writer of the Year award in 2012.

Admission costs £1. To book a ticket, call in at Blackburn library, call 01254 661221 or email library@blackburn.gov.uk.
