RESEARCH which revealed that a third of youngsters not in education, employment or training are depressed has been described as ‘heartbreaking’ by Blackburn-based Training company.
Alex O’connor, business lead for pre-apprenticeships at Training 2000, which is involved in the university Technology college due to open in Burnley in August, said: “Figures from this survey by the UCU lecturers’ union reveal that 40 per cent feel they aren’t part of society and 36 per cent believe they will never get a job.
“It’s important for everyone involved in a child’s education – schools, colleges, training providers and family – to do everything they can to provide a complete support network so that these young people don’t suffer from unnecessary stress or depression.
“We want these young people to achieve their potential.
“We have over 50 vacancies currently available with businesses across Lancashire and Cumbria, so are urging any young people to get in touch so we can help them to make their way back into work.”
