CHARITY AgeUK is urging older drivers to check their licences are still in date.
Figures from the DVLA revealed there are 2million photocard driving licences currently out of date, with a further 2.6million driving licence photos due to expire this year.
People with an expired driving licence could face a penalty of up to £1,000.
Lesley Davis, supervisor at AgeUK Lancashire in Burnley, said: “Driving is a great way to maintain independence and freedom.
“With a £1,000 fine at risk we’re encouraging local older motorists to check their driving licences haven’t expired. This is particularly important for drivers who are 70 plus as their licences need to be renewed every three years – helpfully for motorists of this age renewals are free.”
