WORK to repair speed bumps on a busy stretch of residential road will be carried out next month.
Blackburn with Darwen Council has instructed contractors from Capita to start repairs in Sudellside Street and Olive Lane.
The work will begin on Monday, August 19, and is expected to take a week.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place along the road while work is done.
It comes just weeks after Sudell councillor Roy Davies complained about the state of the large speed bump at the junction of Sudellside Street and Sudell Road.
Blackburn with Darwen Council executive member for regeneration, Coun Maureen Bateson, said: “The council is continually monitoring and undertaking repairs to ensure our road network is safe.
“We have undertaken work on this site on a number of occasions, however, it has since been added into our programme of works for resurfacing due to road safety issues.”
In June, the Lancashire Telegraph reported Coun Davies’s concerns about the junction of Sudellside Street and Olive Lane.
At the time, Coun Davies said the site was ‘dangerous’ due to the number of potholes and the fact the white give way lines had worn away.
He said: “Hopefully, it is good news the junction will be recovered and I am told the signs will be upgraded as well.
“There have been five reported accidents there in three years, but there are a lot more that don’t get reported.
“Hopefully, once the work has been done, it will be better for the motorists and householders in the area.”
Fellow Sudell councillor Paul Browne said: “The people who did them in the first place have used the wrong materials.
“If they had done it right in the first place they would never have needed to be done.
“The speed bumps on Greenway Street have never had to be repaired.
“It is a waste of taxpayers’ money and it really annoys me that this has had to be done.”
