TWO Burnley music lovers have joined a nationwide call to put on music festivals in aid of Oxfam.
‘Gig Makers’ Isobel Fielder and James Burton have called for East Lancashire musicians to get involved with Oxjam, which will take place at the Inn on the Wharf in Manchester Road.
The pair have already secured two acoustic acts as they seek to put together the line-up for October’s big event.
Miss Fielder, 21, a linguistics student at Newcastle University, said her love of music inspired her to lend a hand in organising the festival.
She said: “James and I are both really into our music and we got in touch with the regional takeover managers for Oxjam in the north west.
“This is the first time I have done something like this but event management is something I’d really like to get into.
“James has worked at the Burnley International Rock and Blues Festival for the last three years so he’s got experience.”
The pair will attend an Oxjam training day in Leeds next month where they will be given tips on how to make the event a success.
Burnley singer-songwriter Lucy Zirins and Ian Anderson have already been confirmed for acoustic performances in the afternoon on October 12.
Miss Fielder, 21, said: “James is good friends with folks who run the Inn on the Wharf so he’s done really well to get such a good venue.
“At the minute we’re appealing for bands who want to play for free so Oxfam can raise as much as possible.”
Oxjam - known as ‘the nation's local music festival’ - began in 2006, with the aim of creating a network of music fans to unite in the fight against poverty.
Previous Oxjam gigs took place at Burnley Mechanics Theatre in 2006, the Queen’s Hotel in Colne in 2008, Sanctuary in Burnley in 2010 and the ACE Centre in Nelson last October.
Any artists who want to get involved should contact Miss Fielder on 07773 406866.
