BURNLEY councillor Charles Bullas handed over more than £32,000 to charity, raised during his time as mayor.

Half of Coun Bullas’ fundraising total was presented to Pendleside Hospice, with the remainder split between 20 other good causes.

He said: “To be the mayor of the borough of Burnley has been an honour and a privilege.

“It has been a wonderful experience for Irene and myself.

“It’s a hard and demanding job that I would recommend to any fellow councillor who is fortunate enough to have the opportunity to be offered the position.”

The veteran Coal Clough with Deerplay councillor also paid tribute to the numerous organisations, schools and businesses he visited during his mayoral year.
