A JEALOUS knifeman who threatened to kill a friend his pregnant girlfriend had gone to their home with has been jailed for six months.

Burnley Crown Court heard how alcoholic Terry Love, 32, had earlier been thrown out of a house party in Church, after arguing with his partner, Zoe Shorrocks, because he had not attended the unborn baby's scan.

She went home with Liam Fogg and Love turned up, smashed the patio doors with a brick and picked up two kitchen knives with six-inch blades.

He told police anybody who saw him would have thought he was ‘mental’.

The defendant, who had 15 offences on his record, admitted possessing bladed articles, criminal damage and failing to surrender.

Lisa Worsley, prosecuting, said in the early hours Love and Ms Shorrocks argued about the scan. A friend would say he had threatened to kick the baby out of her.

She returned to their home on Lonsdale Street, Accrington, with Mr Fogg and Love arrived. He shouted: “I am going to kill her.”

He waved the knives in front of him and threatened to kill Mr Fogg. He was arrested for criminal damage and said: “What would you do if some other guy was sleeping with your girlfriend?"

A kitchen knife was found under the front window and also a handle and a blade were discovered in some grass.

Miss Worsley said when Love was questioned, he told police he had had issues with alcohol since he was 14. He claimed he thought there was something going on between his girlfriend and Mr Fogg.

The defendant, who said he had a further con-frontation with Mr Fogg outside, accepted he had wanted to threaten someone with the knives. He had had far too much to drink.

Philip Holden, for Love, said he had been jealous. He had been to Inspire and on an alcohol treatment programme, which he had found to his benefit.

Mr Holden said: “Clearly, he continues to have problems with alcohol. He is plainly a man who needs assistance, both in terms of his mental health problems and his alcohol addiction."

Judge Jonathan Gibson told Love: “As you know, knife crime is considered seriously by the courts.”
